When Gravity Fails originally formed in London at the end of the Summer of 2003. The band met up through ads and acquaintances and found a musical common ground in heavy rhythms, cutting guitars and strong melodies threading throughout the music.
Nick comes from Cortizone being the songwriter and playing bass. They released two EPs and the Selling Out for the Sucker album (produced by Machine). They toured with Tool, Paradise Lost and Raging Speedhorn amongst others.
Ivan originally comes from South Africa. After spending his days surfing and life guarding, whilst singing and guitaring in various S.A. rock bands, he got sick of dodging the sharks and decided to move to London for the express purpose of finding a great sounding band to sing with.
Alex hails from North Scotland and was playing with the extreme noise-merchants Tic up until Dec 2004, touring around the UK.
Darren comes from a drumming dynasty as his dad was the drummer in the Troggs. He was schooled from the year dot in heavy Bonham style drumming. He's sessioned for and played in various bands around the UK, including Elliott.
Dave has stepped in to play guitar for some low slung, drop tuned riffatronics.
"We're not sure how we fit in with what's going on musically at the moment in the UK" says Nick, "We like the more progressive bands like Soundgarden, Quicksand, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, bands that can stretch themselves musically. We're writing songs that aren't necessarily based around a verse / chorus type of structure, it's just good to play music which can take you on a journey."
The band are unsigned and have just self produced and recorded their debut album mixed by John Mitchell (The Blueprint, Funeral for a Friend). Do yourself a favour and catch When Gravity Fails playing their arses off at a venue near you.
