Sacha Puttnam

Sacha Puttnam is fast establishing a name as one of the most gifted, credible and multi-faceted composers around. His wide ranging talents have already seen him notching up success, not only in classical music but also in rock & dance music too.

It is Puttnam's musical background that gives him the foundation from which he has risen. He began by studying music in the US at the Berklee School of Music gaining an Honours degree and then studied for a further four years at the Moscow Conservatory, concentrating on conducting and composition. From there Puttnam gained practical experience orchestrating alongside film composer Michael Kamen, collaborating on "Inventing The Abbots" and incidental music for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games. Puttnam scored several short films in his own right, ranging from "The Architect", by director Luke Watson which won best Short Film at the Munich short film festival, through to Oscar winner Andrea Arnold's "Week In Week Out" and "Milk" to William Beaton's, "Different For Girls". Puttnam came to the attention of film director Robert Lepage who drafted him in to score his Oscar Nominated film "The Confessional", which possesses one of Puttnam's finest cues to date. A hypnotic and haunting soundscape that showcases his strength in marrying mood and melody to picture.

More recently Puttnam's film work included scoring the Dennis Hopper movie "The Keeper" and also writing additional score for Nick Love's cult Brit flick "The Football Factory".

Puttnam's musical diversity is unparalleled. From working with multi-platinum rock act Bush as their keys player for a couple of years and arranging a number of their most revered tracks, to scoring John Dryden's Sony Award winning adaptations of "Bleak House" and "A Suitable Boy" for Radio 4. It doesn't stop there - Sacha also took time out in between recording and touring duties to teach music and even taught Prime Minister Blair's kids piano!

His other credits as a writer and arranger have included arranging, co-writing , conducting and scoring tracks on dance act Hybrid's first heavily acclaimed album "Wide Angle" which notched up sales of over 100,000 and still remains a classic within the dance community. Sacha also arranged and conceptualized Pop artist Sia's first UK Top Ten single "Taken for Granted".
Last Year also saw Sacha release an album titled "Remasterpiece" on EMI records as an artist, arranger and compiler in a collaboration with eclectic DJ Chris Coco. Sacha has also co-written and arranged both of Chris Coco's last 2 artist albums including collaborative tracks with Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac and Nick Cave.

2006 has also also seen Sacha score the new BBC adaption of "A Cairo Trilogy" with Omar Shariff.

In short it is a combination of Sacha's talents across many musical genres that makes him one of the most interesting unique and cutting edge composers of the minuite.
