McQueen - Powerplay Magazine Review

McQueen "Break The Silence"
Genre: Sleaze Rock
Demolition Records

McQueen - Break The SilenceHaving had the pleasure (and I do mean pleasure) of meeting McQueen earlier this year, it was clear that whilst the Brighton-based female foursome may not have been naturally gifted with their own sets, they were not a band without balls. This was a quartet that meant business and anybody that considered their gender to be detrimental to this ambition would quickly find themselves begging for mercy. This is because - like any decent sleazy rock outfit - McQueen are over-flowing with attitude.

Vocalist Leah Duors not only has the look of a confident singer, but has a swagger about her that positively drips with lustrous charisma. Her seductive whispers interchange with venomous snarls whilst the rest of McQueen throttle their instruments as if they were the necks of all the chauvinistic detractors they've no doubt met over the years. In fact, just in case there was anybody left uncertain, on "Not For Sale" Duors spells it out: "Don't remind me I'm a girl, stop talking to my chest," she demands. Yet anybody concerned that "Break The Silence" is nothing more than a collection of feminist rants need not worry as for the most part McQueen let the music do the talking. The title track, "Numb" and the incredibly catchy single "Running Out Of Things To Say" are immensely satisfying songs penned on the South Coast, but destined for the Sunset Strip. Cock rock without the cocks? Without a doubt.
