Mobile phone company "Juice Mobile" have signed the first ever exclusive subscription service fan club and content deal with McQueen in what is seen as a pioneering move by the mobile company. The last year has seen the band rise to prominence as the leading British female rock act and has seen the band play gigs alongside everyone from the Foo Fighters and QOTSA to the Kaiser Chiefs and leading Japanese rock act The Mad Capsule Markets.
Fans simply have to text the word McQueen to 80876 in order to open up the McQueen-WapZine. A £3 monthly subscription will enable fans to access a world of content that includes ringtones, realtones, and full track downloads. Video footage, news, tour dates, as well as regular updates and interviews with the act will also feature. And in what is seen as a first for mobile, fans will have the opportunity to interact with each other in much the same way they do on hugely popular community websites such as Myspace.
Karl Nielson from Juice Mobile says ³This will be the first of a number of key strategically targeted deals that we do in this area and we are currently talking to a couple of other premier UK and US rock acts. We are very excited to have signed McQueen not only are they a great act with a tremendous global buzz about them, but they also have proven management backing them it is a terrific and significant first signing".
Juice has recently completed a succewwssful round of funding and is looking to expand their music artist roster. Juice Mobile founder David Simmons was also responsible for the creation of the weekly ring tones chart.
McQueens manager Seven Webster of A7 music says "With ever decreasing singles sales it is important to find fresh income streams for bands, and this is to me an excellent service which is no different to the primitive fan clubs of yesteryear but a thousand times better".
McQueen are currently out on 20 date UK tour at the moment promoting their
current new single "Running out of things to Say" on indie label
Furry Tongue Records. The track will also feature in the new Electronic Arts
computer Game "Total Club Manager 2006" also out this month.
