Dave Hemingway Biography

Dave Hemingway

Dave grew up on the docks of Hull, East Yorkshire. Coincidentally one of his first bands was The Velvetones with fellow Future South guitar man Dave Rotheray. Dave's big break came when he was asked to replace Hugh Whitaker as the Housemartin's drummer in the mid 80s.

Upon the later formation of the Beautiful South, Dave fatefully became lead singer, though his self admitted lack of stage presence (he is after all primarily a drummer!) has led to him falling back behind Paul Heaton. It was Dave's voice that dueted with Briana Corrigan on the bitter sweet ballad "A Little Time", The Beautiful South's only Number 1 to date.

Dave's voice is both powerful and unique and is showcased in all its glory on his forthcoming solo album 'Hello Cruel World'. The album has been a labour of love and has taken a while to record due to "studio difficulties" with the recording in London. Suffice it to say that the albums title was birthed from Dave's experience recording in the capital.

'Hello Cruel World' features a wide array of styles, from stripped down acoustic and piano ballads to full band workouts and even some more contemporary electronic influences. It reflects the wide array of music Dave enjoys and highlights the talent of one of the finest and emotive male vocalists around.
