7pm Management
7pm
Management was launched in 1992 by Seven Webster after drawing upon his
own previous experiences as both a songwriter and artist.
Seven produced demos for Top 40 rap/metal act Senser before taking on a small team of DJs and producers which included DJ Sasha . The 7pm roster subsequently wrote, produced and remixed hits for acts M-People, D-Ream, Womack and Womack, Madness, Monie Love, Sounds of Blackness and Alexander O'Neil. 7pm then developed and launched the careers of previously unknown artists Shiva, BT (Brian Transeau) and Mother, all of whom went on to enjoy top 40 success.
During this time the company became instrumental in pioneering DJ culture, with Sasha at the helm. They took on management of DJ John Digweed and helped instigate the seminal Gold selling "Renaissance" compilation albums; the first DJ mixed CDs to reach coffee table cult status. Further uccessful albums followed. Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure album and Worldwide tour demonstrated how dance, like rock music, could sell albums the world over if supported by strategic touring.
7pm also acquired the publishing on an underground dance track and placed it in the film "Trainspotting". The film became huge, and the record "For What You Dream Of" went top 20. The company then entered into a publishing arrangement with Sony Music, which currently sub-publishes a small but profitable catalogue of around 600 songs. This includes Go-Go legends Troublefunk, urban dance outfit Tuff Jam and progressive house favourites Blue Amazon.
Seven later joined forces with lawyer Matt Jagger (now MD of Mercury Records) in a small record label venture called Jackpot Records. Jackpot was not aimed at being a costly and competitive chart label but a solid and stable self-sufficient business. Within a year Jackpot was voted best UK dance label by dance music's leading journal Mixmag. Later Jackpot acquired some of the rights from William Orbit's Guerilla label catalogue which prompted Orbit to give the label two of his own tracks.
Taking on management of DJ Carl Cox, 7pm co-ordinated his Fact Tour 2, the Fact 2 and Non-Stop albums, and procured Carl a cameo role in the film Human Traffic.
Around this time Seven also discovered unknown singer/songwriter Dido who was subsequently teamed with a number of songwriters to form the backbone of her debut multi million selling album. Seven signed her at this time to Warner Chappell Music and instigated her record deal with Arista records in America after the UK industry showed no interest.
Diversifying further, 7pm became involved in specialist marketing. Campaigns were managed for a number of high profile accounts including Thompsons Holidays, Pernod, The Voodoo Lounge and Break for the Border. These projects involved everything from producing give-away albums and radio adverts to international tours. Other clients included Avex Records (one of Japan's largest labels) on their Gold selling act Hybrid; assisting with artist development, PR and general marketing of the album. Work was also undertaken for IE Music Management and EMI records, specifically on Robbie Williams first album, consulting on street marketing, remixes and PR.
More recently the expanded 7pm management team of Steve Burton and Chris Sills (working alongside Seven) have been responsible for launching the Worldwide careers of uber DJ Danny Howells and hit record Producer Darren Tate who has enjoyed hit success under the names, "Jurgen Vries" ,"Angelic" ,"Orion" and "DT8". As of today 7pm management currently looks after the likes of most of the A7 music roster under the A7 banner as well as Radio One DJ Chris Coco, Hit Record producer/Kiss FM DJ Andy Morris (of Narcotic Thrust fame) and Beautiful South singer Dave Hemingway. 7pm Management has also recently undertaken management of four- piece female rock act "McQueen" as one of its current priorities.
